England are 90 minutes away from their first World Cup final. They face reigning champions Japan at midnight in Edmonton, Canada.

Mark Sampson's side have already bettered their best record in a tournament after they defeated hosts Canada 2-1 in the quarter finals at the weekend. Japan go into the game as favourites having only conceded two goals in the tournament. Those two goals have come after 90 minutes in both games, after the Asian side were already leading 3-0.

Speaking after the Canada win, England manager was quick to give praise to his players achievements: "We are only the third England team to reach a semi-final, after the 66 and 90 teams. This team has shown incredible character and resilience throughout the tournament."

If Japan are to win the semi final, they will play the United States in a repeat of the final from four years ago. The Americans defeated Germany in Montreal last night 2-0 to reach this weekend's final.

Second half goals from captain Carli Lloyd and Kelley O'Hara sent the Americans through to the final. If they are to win, the United States will become the first side to win the Women's World Cup three times.
