Eight members of the West Ham first-team squad are currently self-isolating after showing COVID-19 symptoms, the club's vice-chairperson Karren Brady has revealed.

Brady made the announcement in her column in The Sun, and added that the players are doing well:

"I am relieved to say they are all showing mild symptoms and, along with their families, seem to be well. But it is no more than a handshake, sneeze or cough away from any of us, so no one should be complacent.

"All the players, including those in self-isolation, are desperate to get back to training and play the games.

"In the meantime, they have been sent a whole set of rules as well as club gym equipment. We respect them as professionals who understand fitness is critical to the way they perform.

"Like every other club, West Ham are doing our bit."

Two weeks ago, the West Ham vice-chair stated her belief that the Premier League season should be voided but she says the Hammers are now keen to see the campaign finished after the pandemic.

"When we — all Prem clubs — last spoke, we agreed to get going again as soon as possible.

And that games will run into July, if required, to get this campaign finished. This is the plan. This is what we want to deliver."
