On Sunday Colm McFadden called time on a Donegal career that had yielded an All-Ireland football crown in 2012.

Hours later it would be team-mate Eamon McGee's turn as he brought down a curtain which also both men win Ulster titles.

But for anyone who has read JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, they would have enjoyed the way the 32-year-old Ghaoth Dobhair clubman announced it, with a passage involving lead character and hero Frodo Baggins:
