The Dutch cycling federation has confirmed that Annemiek van Vleuten is "okay" after a horrific crash during the women's road race at the Rio Olympics.
The Dutch cyclist was leading the race when she crashed in an incident which thrust into a storm drain at the side of the track and left watchers worried as to her condition.
She lay motionless on the outside curve of the track after the crash at a difficult right-hand turn.
But it has since been reported that she is "okay" and "conscious" as she was transported to hospital in an ambulance.
Former British Olympic champion Chris Boardman was critical of the course, telling BBC Sport that it was "too dangerous" - a point echoed by BBC presenter Dan Walker:

Van Vleuten's compatriot Anna van der Breggen won gold ahead of Sweden's Emma Johnasson and Italy's Elisa Longo Borghini. Lizzie Armistead of Great Britain was fifth.
