QPR manager Harry Redknapp has heaped praise on Richard Dunne following the Dubliner’s man of the match display in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Burnley at Loftus Road.

The Londoners moved out of the relegation zone with that victory and Redknapp has singled out Dunne for special acclaim.

“I took Dunney on a free when nobody wanted him last season in the Championship,” said Redknapp.

“When I picked him up he was out of work basically. He hadn’t played a game for Villa the year before through injury and we took a gamble on him.

“He came very much on an appearance related contract and he has been amazing.

“In the (promotion) play-off final at Wembley last year whenever the ball came near the goal Richard Dunne was heading and kicking it away.

“He did that again against Burnley. Since I brought him back into the side his performances have been fantastic.

“He’s a competitor, he’s strong in the air but people think he’s slow. He’s not as quick as he was but in his prime he was lightning quick.

“I’ve had coaches in the past say to me he can’t run but I’ve said you’ve got the wrong guy - he’s deceiving quick. He’s not as quick now but the boy ain’t no slouch.”
