Damien Duff will “definitely” return to Ireland to play club football before his finishes his playing career. The former Ireland international says signing for a League of Ireland club is “definitely on the list” for him.
The Fulham winger told Off the Ball he plans to move home to Ireland following the end of his playing career in England, primarily to raise his children in Ireland, but wants to continue playing football once he does.
Duff has previously talked about his desire to play League of Ireland football before he quits the game for good and when asked if that was still his aim his answer was unequivocal.
“That’s definitely on the list. I’m obviously going to move back home. I want to raise my children in Ireland, and see their family every day,” Duff said.
“I’m not planning on hanging up my boots any time soon. I think there’s an awful lot more left in the tank. Obviously I have to get back fit first, so yeah, absolutely, definitely going to play back home in Ireland.”
When Duff previously talked of his desire to return to play in the League of Ireland there was much speculation that his destination could be Bray Wanderers, due to his close relationship with then Bray director of football Pat Devlin. Devlin has since moved on from the club, however.
Duff was speaking with Keith Andrews, for Off the Ball, ahead of today’s Premier League tie between Fulham and Everton, at Craven Cottage, and you can listen to the full interview here.
