Dublin GAA's plan to open a new home stadium is alive once again, as negotiations have re-opened regarding the purchase of the Spawell Complex in Tempelogue.
The Dublin County Board had previously failed to acquire the 35-acre site as they lost out to a Davy-managed investment fund in June 2015. The site sold for €9million, reportedly €500,000 more than Dublin's bid, and €2.5million more than the initial asking price.
However, according to the Irish Independent, the Dublin County Board are now in negotiations with the investment fund to purchase the property.
If the sale goes through Dublin would aim to follow through on their 2011 strategic plan of erecting a 25,000 capacity stadium, which would serve to bridge the vast gap between the county's current stadium options, Parnell Park(9,000) and Croke Park(82,300).
Located just off the M50, the Spawell complex is seen as a prime location for the county's home National Hurling and Football League games. The stadium would also serve as the base for the southside's GAA activity, located close to a collection of clubs including Faughs, Ballyboden St Edna's, and St. Jude's.
