Drogheda United today confirmed that manager John McDonnell has left the club "by mutual consent".
Drogheda's recent run of form has not been great and they sit second bottom of the Airtricity league table, looking in real danger of going down without much time left to salvage the situation.
August saw them suffer their heaviest defeat of the season in a 4-0 loss to Sligo Rovers, while three goals within in the first 15 minutes saw them slump to a 4-1 defeat this weekend against Limerick.

In a very short statement on their website, the club said that they "would like to thank Johnny for his hard work and dedication during his eight months in charge and wish him all the best in the future", adding that more news would be available shortly.
