Skibbereen's Denise Walsh has qualified for the final of the single women's sculls at the European Championships.

Walsh earned a second-place finish in the semi-final, coming in just over three seconds behind Patricia Merz of Switzerland, in a time of 7:42.53.

After winning a silver medal at the World Cup regatta in Belgrade earlier this month, Walsh will be hoping to continue her successful run in the water in tomorrow's final.

Meanwhile, Olympic silver medalists Paul and Gary O'Donovan will look to match Walsh's feat, when they go into the semi-finals of the lightweight men's double sculls later today.

After missing out on direct qualification into the semis, the O'Donovans took the alternative route through the repechages and eventually booked their place in the next stage alongside the team Ukraine.
