Manchester United will be without goalkeeper David de Gea and World Cup winner Paul Pogba for their Premier League game against Liverpool this Sunday.

De Gea limped off the pitch during the second half of Spain's 1-1 draw away to Sweden in the Euro 2020 qualifiers last night in Stockholm.

The Spanish shot-stopper suffered the thigh injury when clearing a ball, immediately clutching his leg. After the game, Spanish coach Roberto Moreno confirmed he "he had pain in the abductor muscle but he received treatment at half-time and wanted to keep playing."

He has only missed one league fixture over the past three seasons.

Pogba meanwhile, has been nursing a knee injury for the past number of weeks. The French international had missed four of the past seven games in the league and is now expected to be out for up to three weeks.

"Paul had an injury, he came back, he worked really hard," said Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to Sky Sports. "He came back and played a couple of games, maybe played through the pain barrier.

"He had a scan after the Arsenal game and maybe needed a few weeks' rest in a boot so hopefully he won't be too long, but he won't make this game, no."

The Manchester Evening News reports that Pogba had spent the international break in Dubai on some warm weather training.

The injuries add to the problems for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Manchester United sit 12th in the Premier League table following a less than ideal start to the campaign. The question marks surrounding the Norwegian were compounded before the international break when the Red Devils suffered a 1-0 to relegation-threatened Newcastle United at St James' Park.

As it stands, that treatment list includes David de Gea, Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Diogo Dalot, Mason Greenwood, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, and Luke Shaw. Aaron Wan-Bissaka had suffered illness but is expected to return.

Pogba, Martial, Lingard, Lindelof, Jones, Shaw, Wan-Bissaka, and Bailly all missed United’s last league game against Newcastle. While Dalot limped off and Greenwood withdrew from the England Under-21 squad through injury.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is to give a press conference tomorrow ahead of the clash with the league-leaders Liverpool.
