With Davy Fitzgerald's imminent departure as Clare senior hurling manager being "definite" according to Peter O'Connell of The Clare Champion, thoughts will turn to who will succeed the 2013 All-Ireland winner.

On tonight's Off The Ball, O'Connell explained how the situation has arisen but also discussed some of the names who will be linked to the upcoming vacancy including ex-Clare player and manager Anthony Daly.

"Anthony Daly is definitely going to be linked to the job. He had the job for three years, roughly seven or eight years ago at this stage," said O'Connell.

He also pointed to Gerry O'Connor and Donal Moloney, who jointly guided Clare to three successive All-Ireland under-21 hurling crowns between 2012 and 2014 as potential candidates.

"The joint managers who won the three All-Ireland under-21s must be in with a great chance if they're interested - Donal Moloney and Gerry O'Connor - they would have worked with vast majority of the players," he said.

"I think they'll definitely be in the running."

O'Connell also pondered whether ex-All-Ireland winning Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy may also be in the running.
