Davis Love III is set to be named US Ryder Cup captain, according to reports in the US.

Love was captain in 2012, the famous Medinah tournament that saw Europe claw back a final day 10-6 deficit and going on to win 14 ½ to 13 ½.

Despite the defeat Love was a popular captain and would be the second repeat captain in a row, after Tom Watson’s 2014 captaincy. Following the Medinah defeat many players in the US team said they felt they had let the captain down.

ESPN reports that the European captain is expected to be named on Wednesday, with Darren Clarke and Miguel Angel Jimenez the front runners.
