Cycling Ireland will not nominate Pat McQuaid for a third term as president of the UCI.
The members of Cycling Ireland held an EGM in Dublin earlier today and at the meeting a vote - on McQuaid’s nomination to continue as prsident of cycling's governing body - was conducted. McQuaid lost the vote with 94 votes against his nomination, 71 votes for.
McQuaid had to seek the endorsement of his home union for the election, but he has lost significant support over his handling of the major events in cycling during his tenure, most notably the Lance Armstrong scandal.
McQuaid is also seeking the nomination of the Swiss cycling union – he is resident in Switzerland – but that effort is facing a legal challenge.
