Brian Cuthbert was appointed Cork footballer manager last night on a two year term.

The Bishopstown man was part of the senior backroom last season and previously led the minors to an All Ireland final during his spell in charge from 2010 to 2011.

A country level he helped Bishoptown reach the Cork Senior Championship quarter-finals and semi-finals in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

Cuthbert captained the Cork minors to an All Ireland win in 1993.

Cork reached the All Ireland quarter finals, losing to Dublin in Conor Counihan's final match in charge of the Rebel County.

Meanwhile Cork's Aidan Walsh and Ciaran Sheehan could miss the second test of the International Rules series.

Both are due to pay for their clubs in the intermediate hurling final the day after the test.

The Irish Examiner reports that the clubs want to keep the game on this date but the County board executive have indicated they do not want players to be forced to withdraw from International duty.
