Waterford driver Craig Breen continued his impressive start to the World Rally Championship on Sunday.

The Citroen driver finished in fifth place at the Rally de Portugal. It was his fourth top-five finish of the season.

Breen, alongside co-driver Scott Martin, have competed in five of the opening six rounds of the World Rally Championship this season. Apart from a retirement in Argentina last month, Breen has finished in fifth place in his other four starts.

The Waterford driver won one of the stages early in the Rally, but slipped down the standings to finish in fifth place.

Writing on his own Facebook page after the Rally, Breen said he was "really happy" to finish in the top five once more.

"We were one of the fastest on Friday and we can take positives from that. It hasn't been a terrible weekend."

M-Sport's Sebastien Ogier won the Rally for the fifth time to extend his lead at the top of the Drivers Standings from Belgium's Thierry Neuville.

Dungannon's Kris Meeke, a teammate of Breen finished in 18th place. He is currently in ninth place in the Drivers Standings, two places behind the Waterford driver.

Round 7 of the WRC takes place in Sardinia next month.
