It is common knowledge that Valencia have been enduring tough financial times over the past few years.

The financial crisis hit at a time when Valencia were building a new stadium and crucially before they were able to sell the Mestalla.

It has left Los Che with crippling debts, despite constantly selling off star names, and they are likely to miss out on the Champions League next season for the second campaign in succession.

On the Football Show tonight, our European football correspondent Graham Hunter

"Things are getting worse. The changes that have been effected since the beginning of this year have spiralled things downwards. The president who has taken over has reacted slowly to what's going on. The bank want to sell the club. The Valencia Foundation desperately don't want to sell. The city council who funded the survival of Valencia by paying the last installment to a bank called Bankia, have had to close down the local television channel and lay everybody off. People in the city are now saying that if they can't fund these people, then why are they funding the football club. Division is growing and fans are turning against the team."

The club are trying to appoint a new manager in the shape of Argentina-based coach Pizzi and have also brought in ex-winger Rufete as General Manager.

But the "mess is getting dangerously out of control" according to Graham who sees it as a "straight out fight for survival."

The only hope for Valencia is a buy-out by a rich foreign owner who would have to pay about €400 million, although Graham sees it as a "remote possibility" for a club who had the potential to become an elite club in the early 2000s.
