Atletico Madrid were one of the dark horses for the Champions League at the start of the season.

But now that horse has bolted all the way to the final in Lisbon after beating Chelsea 3 - 1 last night.

And just to add to the intrigue, Los Colchoneros will face their storied city rivals Real Madrid in the decider.

Last night, we were joined on the line by Madrid based Dermot Corrigan who was in the perfect place to gauge the mood in the city.

He told us about the geographical breakdown when it comes between Atletico and Real fans in the city and analyzed one of the most unlikely runs in La Liga and Europe for Diego Simeone's team.

But can they avoid Borussia Dortmund's fate and prevent the foundations of their team from being picked apart by the wealthier clubs.

"They have invested some money in putting players on long-term contracts. Simeone has signed a new contract earlier on this season. Guys like Arda Turan, Juanfran, Koke all signed long-term deals and have big release clauses. So some of them might go. Simeone admitted that Costa could go and there's talk that a €60 million has been done with Chelsea," said Corrigan.
