Lar Corbett faces up to six weeks on the sidelines with a rib injury, sustained during Sunday’s League final defeat to Kilkenny.

The former hurler of the year spent some time in hospital on Sunday night, following his side’s 2-17 to 0-20 Allianz Hurling League final loss to Kilkenny at Nowlan Park.

Corbett was sent off late in the second half along with Cats defender JJ Delaney, but Tipp officials say they will wait for the referees report to be submitted before deciding whether or not they will appeal the card.

Should the ban remain in place Corbett would miss Tipp’s opening game of the Munster championship, on June 9th, when they come up against Limerick in the semi-final.
Tipp chairman Sean Nugent told the Irish Independent it was “possible” Corbett was injured during the goalmouth fight with Delaney.

Nugent said: "It's possible that it may have occurred at that time, or at some other stage. I don't think Lar is too sure himself at what time it occurred, but he certainly has broken ribs."
