Conor McGregor has hit out at critics of his stance on the wearing of the poppy.
Writing on his Facebook page, the UFC interim featherweight champion said, "I don't need a stupid little flower with a 100 different meanings to tell me if I do or do not represent my country".
The wearing of the poppy flower is an annual tradition on Rememberance Day, November 11th, in Commonwealth countries - and some non-Commonwealth - to remember armed forces members who have lost their lives in wars.
It is believed that social media criticism on the back of an old image of McGregor wearing a poppy may have sparked his Facbeook comment (warning strong language):
