Connacht Rugby have launched a fundraising campaign that will “give every Irish rugby fan from around the world the chance to play their part in growing and developing the future stars of Connacht and Irish rugby.”

The fundraising will be run through a system where donations are rewarded, with everything from a personal thank you from Eric Elwood to signed jerseys and commemorative bricks at the Sportsground on offer.

The province have produced the following animation, which explains the costs that go into coaching young rugby players and asks the public to get involved in funding the effort to help the province reach their goals. (It appears a lot of cattle have to give their lives in the name of rugby progress.)

What are those goals? Well, they’re quite simple really.

  • To produce the best rugby players in the world and keep them in Connacht.
  • To develop more players for the Irish National team.
  • To produce British & Irish Lions.
  • A Connacht player to lift the Rugby World Cup wearing the famous Green Shirt.

The World Cup, folks. The World Cup. You certainly can’t fault their ambition.

And here is the full list of donations and the corresponding rewards

  • €10 Thank you from Eric
  • €25 Thank you and big shout out from us all at Connacht Rugby on Facebook
  • €50 Thank you and signed team poster
  • €100 Thank you and 2 match tickets
