Colin Farrell has confirmed he will be starring in the second season of HBO’s massive hit show True Detective. Following on from the critically acclaimed performances of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, Farrell will star in a new storyline with an entirely new cast.

Speaking to The Sunday World, Farrell said: “I’m doing the second series. I’m so excited.”

"I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to shoot. I know very little about it, but we're shooting in the environs of Los Angeles which is great. It means I get to stay at home and see the kids."

Nic Pizzolatto will return as writer for the second season, although Farrell appears to be the only actor confirmed so far, Vince Vaughan and Taylor Kitsch of Friday Night Lights are expected to star alongside Farrell, while Jessica Biel is tipped to be the female lead.

True Detective was a critical and commercial success for HBO, with the 8 part series quickly earning a cult following as the complex, Southern Gothic tale of two detectives hunting a killer had fans obsessed with figuring out the identity of the killer. Critics raved about the script, acting and the directing, meaning expectations for the second season will be at the highest level.
