Clarence Seedorf was sent off for just the second time in his twenty year career, when he was dismissed in the most biazarre of circumstances during Botafogo’s 2-1 win over Maduereira.

The video below can be confusing, at best, so here’s the pertinent info as we understand it. Seedorf was substitiuted and, as we understand is the custom in Brazil and every single other country where football is played, he made his way towards the bench. The referee wasn’t a fan of that plan though, and told the former Dutch international to get to the nearest touchline available, in the interests of minimising time wasting.

Clarence wasn’t having it (or, he claimed later, understanding it), and headed for home, which resulted in a yellow card. Then he started a sprint towards his own bench (notable because, as you might be aware, sprinting is not usually associated with time wasting) but was followed by a referee who might, perhaps, have been feeling the pressure to lay down his law with the disobedient superstar. And so, in highly confusing circumstances, Clarence Seedorf saw red for just the second time in over two decades.

Following the game Seedorf let reporters know what he had made pretty obvious already; "I didn't understand anything."
