Ireland number eight CJ Stander says Ireland have a chance of winning the World Cup in Japan next year.

The South African born Irish international spoke to OTB's John Duggan about the possibility of Ireland lifting the Webb Ellis trophy in Japan next year.

Stander says he's expecting a season of ups and downs before the squad depart for Japan but believes opportunities are there for the side to advance to the knockout stages.

"If we can get ourselves out of the group, and give ourselves a chance to get to the playoffs. Yeah, there are opportunities there. I've never been part of a World cup but I know a World Cup year is full of ups and downs,' said Stander.

The Munster forward insists that Ireland must keep momentum in order to bring confidence into next year's tournament, something that could possibly help them win the tournament.

Ireland play New Zealand, Argentina and USA in November's Guinness Series in Dublin.

"We've given ourselves some good confidence going into the World Cup, to get ourselves to a place - where we can win it.

The number 8 says he is very thankful to Ireland and Munster for helping him recognise his dream. Something he has always wanted to do.

"It's always something I wanted to do; to be part of a World Cup squad. As I said earlier, Irish team and Munster have put in a lot of years coaching for me. They given me the opportunity to live out my dream."
