It's been a tumultuous year for professional boxer Christina McMahon.

A world title fight in Mexico early on in the year resulted in a contentious decision awarding the fight to her opponent Zulina Munoz who was fighting on home soil that night.

Requests were submitted for a rematch and initial correspondences from the WBC (World Boxing Council) hierarchy, indicated that it would happen in Ireland. But as the weeks rolled on without confirmation of the fight, a frustrated McMahon spoke out and condemned the whole situation. She was then suspended on Facebook messenger and thus transferred to the WBA (World Boxing Association) and a super flyweight world title fight was promised to her for this coming December at the National Stadium in Dublin.

But the fight has now been cancelled, due to her opponent Linda Laura Lecca's withdrawal for what is described as 'unspecified reasons.'

The Monaghan fighter is remaining positive however, and says she's still intent on chasing the belt. She told Irish Boxing.com, 'this is not the end of the journey, just a frustrating situation that will look small in the years to come.'
