Chelsea have confirmed they have made an unsuccessful bid for Manchester United's Wayne Rooney.
They strongly deny that any player was offered in part exchange, as was widely reported this morning.
Reports suggested that the Blues had offered Man United £10 million plus either Juan Mata or David Luiz in exchange for Wayne Rooney.
But in a statement this was denied:
"Chelsea can confirm that yesterday it made a written offer to Manchester United for the transfer of Wayne Rooney. Although the terms of that offer are confidential, for the avoidance of doubt and contrary to what is apparently being briefed to the press in Sydney, the proposed purchase does not include the transfer or loan of any players from Chelsea to Manchester United."
Man United insist Rooney is not for sale, despite reports that he is "angry and confused" over a perceived slight by David Moyes.
However he has not issued a transfer request.
