Two Antoine Griezmann goals prised Barcelona's fingers off the Champions League trophy as Atletico Madrid reached the Champions League semi-finals.

Holders Barca came into tonight's game holding a 2-1 lead from their home leg last week.

But their chances of becoming the first side to retain the European Cup in the Champions League era was put in danger when Griezmann's perfectly executed header put Atletico 1-0 up on 36 minutes as his effort beat goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.

In an increasingly heated match, Diego Simeone's side had a chance to put Barca right on the brink with two minutes to go when Andres Iniesta's handball resulted in a penalty.

France international forward stepped up to fire home and send Barcelona out and Atletico into the semi-finals.

They will be joined by Bayern Munich in a draw that will include Real Madrid and Manchester City after the German champions drew 2-2 at Benfica.

The result was enough for Pep Guardiola's side to advance 3-2 on aggregate.

Arturo Vidal and Thomas Muller scored for Bayern, while Benfica's goals came from Raul Jimenez and Talisca.
