Five time All Ireland winners and 14-time Ulster champions Cavan have been a sleeping giant for too long. But there are hopes that the county has awoken from over half a century of slumber after the U21s claimed their third successive Ulster title last night.

The previous two finals have seen them take on Tyrone. But last night saw them claim a hat-trick of Ulster trophies by putting away Donegal 0-13 to 1-6 at Brewster Park.

Dave McIntyre caught up with Cavan U21's boss Peter Reilly and although he also credits the current success and a recent provincial title at minor level with work done over the past decade, he is adamant that the current crop of players should get most of the plaudits.

"Obviously it has been coaching in the schools going back 10 years," explained Reilly. "But every county is at that. We are lucky that we have hit upon a group of footballers that are good footballer and are very committed. They know what they want to do and they know where they are going and its probably just a streak of players."

Cavan has yet to convert U21 success at provincial level into tangible All Ireland glory and that is the aim for 2013:
