The director gave an update about the upcoming movies in a Reddit AskMeAnything and admitting that there is "pressure" as the screenwriting process comes to an end.
“The second, third and fourth films all go into production simultaneously,” he wrote. “They’re essentially all in pre-production now because we are designing creatures, settings and characters that span all three films. And we should be finished with all three scripts within the next, I would say, six weeks.”
He announced that the scripts will be done soon, and that the biggest pressure he feels at the moment is having to cut out scenes that he loves in order get the film down to a suitable length.
“The biggest pressure I feel right now is cutting out things I love to get the film down to a length that is affordable,” he wrote on Reddit.
Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang and even Sigourney Weaver, who died in the first movie, will return for the sequels.
Avatar was released in 2009, and broke several box office records during its theatre run. Production on Avatar 2 is scheduled to begin in Autumn and due for release in 2016.
