Hull City manager Steve Bruce has questioned the conviction of Ched Evans.

The footballer, who was found guilty of rape in 2011, has thus far failed in his search for a club.

Speaking at a Hull press conference, Bruce shared his view of the conviction and also believes that Evans deserves the chance to play again.

"It has divided opinion of course. When you look at the case in detail - and I don't think most people have really, because they have just seen Ched Evans as a convicted rapist - but when you look at the case and the evidence then certainly Ched has got a case," said Bruce.

"I'm a big believer that if you have done your time, you've done your time. Everyone deserves a second chance."

Meanwhile, Bruce also confirmed they are interested in signing Jermain Defoe.

The striker will train with Tottenham's development squad as he looks to seal a move away from Major League Soccer side Toronto FC during the current transfer window.

Bruce says he is a player he'd like to have at his club, but admits he will face stiff competition to get him.

"A lot of Premier League teams would have an interest in Jermain Defoe if he becomes available, which would seem to be the case. But the figures and the finances might just be beyond us. But we'll have a go," said Bruce.
