It's a peaceful existence, which the 60-year-old star couldn't be happier with.

"We have a wonderful cottage by the sea," he told German newspaper Bild.

"My day goes like this: I make coffee and watch the waves. Then I draw a little and go surfing. Meet some film people, cycle, go home. 'What's for dinner?' It's a simple, almost bourgeois life."

Sadly life hasn't always been this idyllic for the actor.

His first wife, Cassandra Harris, passed away aged 43 in 1991 after battling ovarian cancer, and last year her daughter Charlotte from a previous relationship, who Pierce adopted, passed away from the same illness.

The star managed to get through the hard times by holding onto his beliefs.

"My faith has always helped me. I'm Catholic," he said.

"That's all you have left when your heart is just a dark hole at four in the morning and you have the weight of the world on your shoulders. No one can escape life's pain. That's life."

Pierce won many fans when he took on the role of James Bond in the '90s.

Whereas he enjoyed the attention back then, he's now happy to live a quieter life.

"Fame comes and goes, it's a double-edged sword," he mused.

"As a young actor I desperately wanted to be famous and appear in films - which I achieved. But you can't hold on to fame, you always have to ask yourself: 'How would I cope without it?' And I would cope!"
