Dundalk star Richie Towell has attracted interested from English League Two side Bristol Rovers.

The fourth tier club's manager Darrell Clarke has told The Bristol Post that the midfielder is the "type of player" they are looking for.

Towell has been a central figure for a Dundalk side which has won back-to-back League of Ireland Premier Division titles and has clearly caught the eye on the other side of the Irish Sea.

"Richie has a good pedigree and is the sort of player who might fit the mould we are looking for," said Clarke.

"We have heard some good things about him, but we want to have a look for ourselves and that is probably the next step in the process.

"Steve (Yates) has been out and about looking at several potential targets since taking up his new role recently and I'd anticipate that he will probably going over to Ireland to cast an eye over Richie at some point in the future."

Towell is on the shortlist for the PFAI Player of the Year award. He has represented Ireland at U17, U19 and U21 level and also spent time at Celtic and has trained with Championship clubs.
