Brian Gavin has been tasked with keeping both sides in check during the All-Ireland hurling final between Kilkenny and Tipperary.

The Offaly man has been appointed to referee the final on 4 September and it will be the third time he has officiated an All-Ireland senior final between the two counties.

He was in charge in 2011 for their clash, where Kilkenny emerged victorious, before the 2014 final where Kilkenny once again took the spoils.

The GAA has also confirmed that John Keenan of Wicklow will referee the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Final between Tipperary and Limerick.
