For the very first time in their history, Brentford will play in the Premier League next season.

Goals in the first 20 minutes from Ivan Toney and Emiliano Marcondes saw them bet 10 men Swansea 2-0 in the EFL Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The promotion is worth £170 million to the west London club after their impressive performance in what's dubbed 'the richest game in football.'

This was the Bees' 10th time to feature in the playoffs and captain Pontus Jansson was emotional at full-time.

“It’s unbelievable, I’m so proud.

"Last year’s disappointment was so crazy. We were so low.

"I never cried so much in my life but for us to be here again in a play-off final and be cool and clever in situations .... it’s unbelievable.

"It shows that we have very good character. We have an unbelievable squad; we’ve had so many injuries this season and we still managed to play well and to win a lot of games and go all the way.”

30-year-old Jansson was keen too to pay tribute to his ex-boss Marcelo Bielsa.

Jansson spent three seasons with the Whites before being sold to Brentford in July 2019 at the end of head coach Bielsa's first year in charge.

He's now set to renew his rivalry with his former boss as Leeds prepare for their second season back up in the top tier.

"That's probably what makes me proudest. I saw something in Brentford,"

"I am so thankful to [Marcelo] Bielsa and what he gave me at Leeds. He gave me so much knowledge that I actually brought here to Brentford.

"Brentford were so willing to listen to me with the ideas I took from Bielsa, so I thank him a lot. Bielsa for me is one of the best coaches in the world."
