Liam Brady will leave his position as the head of the Arsenal youth academy by May 2014, according to an official announcement from the club.
Brady has worked with Arsenal youth academy since 1996, following a seven year spell at the club as a player, between 1973 and 1980, when he moved to Juventus. During Brady’s time in the role Arsenal produced players such as Ashley Cole, Kieran Gibbs and Jack Wilshere.
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said of Brady, “Liam has a deep understanding of what it takes to discover and develop a talented youngster into someone who can perform at the highest level. He has made a massive contribution to Arsenal Football Club. It will be difficult to find a worthy successor but we will be looking for someone who can build on what Liam and his team have created.”
The club statement said that Brady “has established Arsenal’s academy as one of the leaders in the game over the past 17 years.
“The Club will be discussing potential roles with Brady to ensure he stays involved.”
