The father of F1 driver Jules Bianchi is convinced his son will not give up fighting for his life.

Philippe Bianchi says Jules' situation is "desperate" after he suffered severe head injuries in a crash at the Japanese Grand Prix nine days ago, and admits it is a "miracle" he's still alive.

The Marussia driver underwent surgery when he got to hospital, but remains in a critical condition.

"He will not give up, I'm sure of that. I can see it. I believe it," Bianchi's father told Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport.

"His doctors have told us that this is already a miracle, no one has ever survived such a serious accident. But Jules won't give-up."

Bianch's father also name-checked drivers like Fernando Alonso, Jean-Eric Vergne, Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamitlon for their show of support in the wake of the accident.
