Tuesday's 7-0 win for Barcelona against Celtic made history for both sides.

Celtic suffered their heaviest ever defeat in Europe, beating the 6-1 loss the side suffered against Barcelona in December 2013. On that night, Neymar scored a hat-trick, just as Lionel Messi scored one on Tuesday night.

For Barcelona, the win is their biggest ever in the European Cup. They were one goal away from matching their European record. In the Cup Winner's Cup in 1982-83 they had an 8-0 home win over Apollon Limassol. 21-years later at the start of the 2003-04 season, Matador Puchev also lost 8-0 in the Camp Nou.

In the Champions League-era, only two teams have lost by a bigger margin than Celtic. In November 2007, Liverpool defeated Besiktas 8-0, with Real Madrid beating Malmo by the same score last season.
