Barcelona star Javier Mascherano has been handed a one year prison sentence along with a fine of over €800,000 over unpaid taxes.

The Argentine is alleged that he used offshore companies to hide his earnings from the Spanish tax authorities.

However, the 31-year-old is unlikely to have to serve any jail time.

The former Liverpool midfielder, who plays at centre-back for Barcelona, had paid back €1.5 million to authorities as well as €200,000 in interest.
