The Chairman of the Football Federation Australia has indicated that Australia may sue if the 2022 World Cup is moved to winter.

Qatar won the right to host the tournament on the basis that it would be held in the summer. However temperatures in the tiny Gulf state hit 50 degrees Celsius in the summer, hence the desire to move the tournament to winter, despite tradition and the chaos it would cause.

Frank Lowy has said that Australia will seek compensation, having spent £25.27 million on their bid which obeyed the summer procedure.

In a statement the Australian Federation sid: "Fifa's 3 October meeting should consider the following: An in-principle decision that just and fair compensation should be paid to those nations that invested many millions, and national prestige, in bidding for a summer event."

Meanwhile, UEFA President Michel Platini has delayed his decision on whether or not to run for the FIFA Presidency until the World Cup in Brazil next year.

The 58-year-old former French international says he will take his decision during or after the World Cup and not before, adding he deeply loves Uefa and it would be heartbreaking to choose another path.
