Those who have been long time Newstalk followers may remember John Gill as one half of the fan out Drakey/Gill commentary double act that guided us through Shelbourne’s European adventure against the big boys of Hadjuk Split, Deportevo La Coruna and Lille.

To league of Ireland fans Gill was on the one that brought Dundalk back to the top flight and against all odds got the now departed Dublin City into the Premier division. The Dubliner also had a stint with Athlone and was an assistant manager at St Pats for a time between 209 and 2010.

At the launch of this seasons SSE Airtricity league Gill spoke to me about what’s expected at Rovers and how they intend to deliver after a disappointing fourth placed finish last year.
