August 8th 2015. 14 months. 27 away games.

Before Tuesday night's win over Reading in The Championship, Aston Villa had not won a competitive away game since their opening-day win over AFC Bournemouth last season.

On the day, Tim Sherwood was manager. In the intervening period, Kevin MacDonald, Remi Garde, Eric Black and Roberto di Matteo all failed to manage the team to an away win. In his first away match, new manager Steve Bruce got that crucial away win.

Jordan Ayew scored a penalty in the 90th minute to give the Birmingham side a 2-1 win. Jonathan Kodjia gave Villa the lead before Yann Kermorgant equalised early in the second half.

While Steve Bruce was delighted to get the win, he added there was still a long way to go. "Thankfully with the quality we’ve got, we managed to restore a bit of belief. That’s all we have done. We haven’t done a lot... But hopefully this will help us kick on."

The club have fallen a long way since winning the European Cup in 1982. A win over Reading, is a start, but they have a long, long way to go.
