Aston Villa have appointed former Arsenal midfielder Remi Garde as their new manager.

The Frenchman has been named as the successor to Tim Sherwood and takes charge of a Villa side that have just four points from their opening 10 league games.

The 49-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best young managers in European football after a successful spell with Lyon and he has agreed a contract that will see him take charge at Villa Park up until June 2019.

Meanwhile, Garde will be in the crowd at White Heart Lane tonight to watch his new players take on Tottenham in the Barclays Premier League.

Caretaker manager Kevin McDonald will be in charge of the Villa squad once again as they go in search of the win that would see them move off the foot of the table.

Kick-off is at 8pm.
