Tottenham left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto has been hit with a three-game FA ban for social media comments related to the Nicolas Anelka quenelle controversy.
The Cameroon international had congratulated former West Brom striker Anelka for performing the gesture during a match against West Brom last season.
The quenelle has been linked to anti-semitism and Anelka was banned for five matches as a result of making the gesture.
Assou-Ekotto had claimed that he had congratulated Anelka via his Twitter account for making what he saw as an "anti-establishment" gesture rather than one linked to anti-semitism.
The former QPR loanee has also been fined £50,000 (€63,000).
