Richard Dunne made a winning return to competitive football last night after helping his new club QPR to a 2-nil victory over Exeter in their first round match in the Capital One Cup.

The veteran defender played the full 90 minutes for the Championship club as they claimed a comfortable win at St James Park.

Elsewhere, fellow Irish international Andy Keogh got the opening goal as Millwall beat Wimbledon by 2 goals to 1 at The Den.

Kevin Doyle came off the bench but couldn't save Wolves from a 1-nil defeat to Morecambe, for whom former Carlow minor hurler Padraig Armond features while Jeff Hendrick, Conor Sammon and Richard Keogh were part of the Derby team that beat Oldham by a goal to nil.

Simon Cox was stretchered off with an ankle injury as Nottingham Forest beat Hartlepool 3-1.
