Andy McEntee is to stay on as Meath senior football manager for a sixth year. 

He survived after a vote of club delegates in Trim on Tuesday night.

The County Board Executive had last week voted to oust McEntee from the role.

Delegates were told that a three-man committee conducted an independent review into McEntee's last two years at the helm. Part of that review included a questionnaire filled out by the players.

The management committee based last week's decision - the clubs were told - on that review.

Further drama was added to proceedings in Knightsbrook when a request to conduct an open vote on McEntee's future was denied.

Instead, the 74 delegates were handed a simple 'yes' or 'no' question with a 60 per cent majority required to carry the management committee's decision.

In the end, 46 delegates voted for McEntee to stay, 27 against, and there was one spoiled vote.

Meanwhile, Nick Weir was ratified as Meath senior hurling manager for a two-year term. David Reilly and Steven Clynch will be his selectors.

Also added to that management team is the name of Seoirse Bulfin. He was the right-hand man of Davy Fitzgerald with Wexford and Waterford, and with Clare during their All Ireland-winning year of 2013.
