Martin O'Neill would have had to taste defeat as Ireland manager someday and perhaps the positive is that it is a friendly and not during the Euro 2016 campaign.
The Boys in Green lost 2 - 1 to Serbia tonight with missed chances and defensive errors proving crucial. To look at the pros and cons from the performance, we were joined by former Ireland centurion Kevin Kilbane.
"There were so many positives especially in the first half," said Killer. "We had a lot of possession certainly in the early stages of the game. Once we missed a couple of chances that were created for Shane Long, it always looked like Serbia would be a threat on the break. Perhaps Wes Hoolahan relied too much on his offensive skills. He could have played a little bit deeper at times to prevent Matic getting on the ball because he was controlling the game for long periods."
Kilbane added that Ireland missed Robbie Keane's finishing prowess but was impressed by Marc Wilson at the heart of the defence. He also felt that Hoolahan excelled when he was on the ball and believes Long can improve and has the potential to be a complete striker despite his missed chances.
