Monaghan's Dick Clerkin has confirmed he wants to continue playing for Monaghan next year.

The Currin star made his debut for Monaghan in 1999 and is the only remaining inter county player in football or hurling in the 1990s.

Clerkin was speaking last night to Off the Ball as he won the "Can't believe he’s still playing" Award at the Woolies. The Monaghan star was delighted to win the award and told Off the Ball "who needs an All Star when you have a Wooly".

Speaking to Ger Gilroy and Colm Parkinson, he said that he planned to continue playing next season, which would be his 17th year in the Monaghan jersey. He is due to have ankle surgery in the coming weeks but will be ready to join the Monaghan squad next year.

"You would prefer to be playing more, but there is a lot to be said to be on the pitch when the final whistle goes. It's an awful nice feature to be on a winning team when the final whistle goes."

"One big injury would more than likely finish me", Clerkin added as he told Off the Ball he has been lucky on that front throughout his career.

Clerkin was part of the Monaghan side that won two Ulster titles in 2013 and earlier this summer.
