Aaron Connolly is out of Ireland's upcoming Euro 2020 international against Denmark.

The Brighton forward will also miss Thursday's friendly against New Zealand after injury put paid to his chances of participation.

A scan on Connolly's groin confirmed that he would be unable to take part in the forthcoming games.

Ireland manager Mick McCarthy confirmed that the 19-year-old has withdrawn from his squad as a result.

"Our team doctor Alan Byrne has spoken to the Brighton medical team and had a look at the scans," he said.

Scans

"The scans have confirmed the groin injury and Aaron won’t be ready in time for New Zealand and Denmark."

The groin injury had flared up during Brighton's 3-1 defeat at Manchester United on Sunday.

Connolly started the match but Seagulls manager Graham Potter substituted the Galway native at half-time.

After the match, Potter had said that the Ireland international was "feeling his groin a little bit."

Connolly made his international debut during the Euro 2020 qualifier draw in Georgia last month.

The forward made an appearance as a late sub in the 0-0 draw, before starting in the following match against Switzerland.
