There is nothing as satisfying for a manager than seeing a training ground routine end up with a goal.
That's what happened last night in a MLS match between Chicago Fire and New York Red Bulls when the away side scored from a corner.
Defender Ronald Zubar scored an equaliser for the Red Bulls on 49 minutes to make it 2-2 after Lloyd Sam took the corner before Sacha Kljestan crossed the ball into the box.
Despite the ingenuity of the goal, it was revealed after the game it should not have stood as Sam touched the ball at least three times when taking the corner. The laws of the game state that "if the kicker touches the ball again before it has touched another player, an indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team."
In the end the mistake of the assistant referee didnt matter as Chicago Fire won the game 3-2.
The goal brings back memories of a corner routine Manchester United used against Chelsea in 2009, which was incorrectly disallowed.
