Shane Ryan was a picture of delight after qualifying for the semi-finals of the 100 metre backstroke in Rio. 

The Irish swimmer made it into the Top 16 after the first round heats with the semi-finals taking place tonight.

"It's great. I wasn't sure how that would go but I got in and I'm really happy about that," he told Newstalk's Richie McCormack.

"I was really happy with my swim. We were working a lot on the technique and being more efficient."
