Fifty-nine NFL players have tested positive for COVID-19 at some stage during the pandemic, according to the NFL Players Association.

The NFLPA had originally stated that 95 players had tested positive but then an update later on Tuesday revealed the number was 59.

The NFLPA cleared up the confusion by stating that the previous number included was all known positives across the league, including staff, and that it has now been updated to include only players.

Last week, the union reported that 72 players had tested positive since July 10th, while the NFLPA and the league have agreed to daily coronavirus testing for all players during the first two weeks of camp.

Some players have already expressed concerns about the lack of safety protocols in place with the players union wanting the best testing to ensure the safety of their players.

The season is set to get underway on September 10th and there will be no pre-season games this year because of the impact of the pandemic.
The NFLPA also said that roster limits will be cut from 90 players to 80 for training camp but that has yet to be signed off on.
The US reported more than 1,000 coronavirus-related deaths on Tuesday so it's unlikely there will be many fans if any allowed in stadiums at the start of the season.
US President Donald Trump has also acknowledged that the pandemic will "probably, unfortunately, get worse before it gets better."
